Coaching is a process by which the coach partners with the client in a confidential, thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the client to maximize his or her professional potential.
The coach’s responsibility is to:
Discover and clarify what the client wants to achieve;
Encourage client self-discovery;
Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies; and
Hold the client responsible and accountable.
Early on in my career as a practicing attorney, I questioned my career choice. I was not feeling fulfilled by my practice, and I felt that I had made a mistake. What to do? Do I stick it out for another 30 years? Do I look for another career? What is my calling? What else can I do? What do I want to do? What will make me feel inspired?
After consulting with a career coach, I discovered that my interests, strengths, values, and goals were not aligned with my career choice. I experienced firsthand the power of coaching, ultimately uncovering my passion for helping people and transitioning into a career where I have helped scores of people navigate their careers.
